Canberra and Region Centre for Spiritual Care and Clinical Pastoral Education Inc.

Mary Waterford : Director for Centre   Taking Intentional Friendship and Care into the World
Mary Waterford
Director

The Canberra and Region Center provides training for pastoral carers through a number of courses and operates from north of Batemans Bay to Bega on the south coast, and inland from Goulburn to Cooma, and Young to Wagga Wagga.

Courses at the Center are authorised and accredited by the NSW College for CPE, which is an affiliated body of the Australia and New Zealand Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ANZACPE).

CPE training groups are available for people from all faith traditions, and walks of life.

Clinical Pastoral Education provides world wide recognised training for pastoral carers.

CPE focuses on the acquisition of skills, personal development and spiritual integration. It is an action/reflection adult learning process.

The trainee learns skills and reflective processes that assist awareness around her or his personal resources, including spirituality and inner life.

These skills and reflective abilities assist the trainee to provide spiritual and emotional support for individuals as they face the impact of illness and/or crisis.

The training focuses on how to relate effectively and appropriately to the emotional and spiritual needs of an individual, enabling that individual to draw on his or her own inner resources as they face their current life situation.

The Center offers advice on the setting up of pastoral care units to hospitals, nursing homes and other community organisations.

The Center covers pastoral and spiritual care for all contexts including mental health, aged care and correctional services.

The Center is affiliated with the NSW College for CPE.
